Meditation. A Brief Overview.
There is no proper definition for meditation. It varies according to the context it is used. Literally it means contemplating or focusing. A self-directed practice for relaxing the body and calming the mind. Most meditative techniques have come to the West from Eastern religious practices, particularly India, China, and Japan, but can be found in all cultures of the world. Until recently, the primary purpose of meditation has been religious, although its health benefits have long been recognized. It is now being further explored as a way of reducing stress on both mind and body.
Studies have found that regular meditation can reduce healthcare use; increase longevity and quality of life; reduce chronic pain; reduce anxiety; reduce high blood pressure; reduce serum cholesterol level; reduce substance abuse; increase intelligence-related measures; and lower blood cortisol levels initially brought on by stress.
Guided Meditation is a wonderful tool to assist you in your spiritual practice. It takes the focus off of self and allows you to immerse yourself in the meditation without your mind getting in the way. I offer customized meditation CDs to help you in any stage of life you may be. We would have an initial session either by phone or in person. This session will give me the opportunity to get to know you and what would benefit you the most from a guided meditation. Whether you’d like to focus on relationships, work, love, loss, etc., your meditation will be completely personalized to suit your needs.
